Bad Frog: The Real Frog That Peace Frog Wishes it Was
A crypto project is running around claiming frog heritage it doesn't have. The receipts exist — and they're dated 2009.
Bad Frog
The Peace Frog Killer
There's a new frog in the crypto space waving a peace sign and a white dove, calling itself Peace Frog and implying it comes from somewhere deeper than Pepe. It doesn't. Strip the rebranding away and what you're looking at is just Pepe — same face, same body, different hoodie. There is no independent Peace Frog character. There is no separate lore. There is no origin that predates Pepe. It's a meme coin with a costume on.
Meanwhile, sitting quietly in the archives of DirtyPilot — an underground art gallery — is a 9"×12" colored pencil drawing on Bristol Board called Bad Frog. Made by Matt Furie himself, in collaboration with artist Aiyana Udesen. Signed by both. Exhibited as part of the Future Colors of America show, February 11 – March 11, 2010. Artwork dated to 2009.
Bad Frog is a real,physical,
signed artwork by Matt Furie!
In crypto, lore is currency. Peace Frog is winning on narrative right now because nobody has thrown down the counter-receipts. Bad Frog is those receipts. Authenticated fine art by the original creator, with an unbroken paper trail: artist → collaboration → gallery → exhibition → sold.
Peace Frog, by contrast, has no such provenance. Its "origin story" is a Twitter account and a meme coin launch. The artwork used is visually Pepe. Bad Frog has a paper trail from 2009. There is no competition here.
